Patch Office: Practice Managers
GP Specialty Training
The Mid-Wessex Patch Office liaises with Trainers and Practice Managers to support GP Training across Mid-Wessex - Basingstoke, Salisbury and Winchester.
When GP trainees are placed in a practice, they will be in their first, second or third year of GP Specialty Training (GPST1/2/3). During the 3 year programme, trainees are required to spend 18 months in hospital posts and 18 months in General Practice. At Mid-Wessex each trainee will undertake a 6 month GP post during ST1 or ST2 and 12 months as ST3. Some trainees work Less Than Full Time (LTFTT) and their programme is therefore extended to cover 3 years whole time equivalent.
The Training programme years run from early August to the end of July - in 2020/21 this is 5th August 2020 to 03 August 2021.
Trainees have to regularly complete their RCGP E-portfolio and successfully complete the training curriculum including:
Workplace Based Assessments
Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) / Recorded Consultation Assessment (RCA)
Applied Knowledge Test (AKT)
Trainees are regularly assessed by ARCP - Annual Review of Competence Progression panels.
Once the Trainee has progressed successfully through the training years and passed the assessments, and achieve the Certificate of Completion of Training, they become a qualified GP.
